Most Effective Way to Clean My BBQ Grill Grate

You just got done cooking out and now the true work starts – cleaning the grill.  While taking care of your grill, there several things to be aware of and remembering to complete those things are just as essential.  Cleaning your grill will make it last for a longer time.  Therefore, I have developed a quick checklist of things you need to be advised – whether your buying a new grill, reading a grill review or wanting to know some things before you start cleaning the grill.

There are numerous ways to clean your barbeque grill, however an important detail is just what not to do when cleaning.  Never maintaining it at all isn’t the proper approach, and you should not have to spend much time cleaning it.

Here’s what to do for the preservation and care of the barbeque grill so the proper service can make it last longer.

1.  Right when your done cooking and your meals are taken off, start using a barbeque grill brush for about 15 seconds to clean the grill grates and to remove any particles around the cooking area. If you have porcelain-coated grills make sure you only use a brass bristle brush, don’t scrape the barbeque grill using a scraper since it may remove the porcelain coating.

2.  As soon as grill is switched off and it has cooled off spray a vegetable oil on the grill so that is well coated.  It protects the grates from corrusion.  You should also put vegetable oil on before every time you grill.  Not only does it shield the grates, but any kind of food, char, or particles will drop in the fire or will turn to ash when the barbeque grill is fired up and pre-heated.

3.  Try not to abandon your grill for too long after your done grilling – it is like running a self-cleaning oven, it’s alright to leave it on to burn off the excess foods or char off, however just do not forget to turn it off, your going to put a lot of stress on the parts and just think of how many times you could of used your barbeque grill in the time you didn’t remember about it and left the grill on.  Letting the grill to run a minute or two is enough since your going to clean and spray it anyways.  Additionally when you pre-heat the grill next time it will burn off the excess.

5.  In order to alleviate the cleaning process, wait until the final couple of minutes before your done cooking to apply tomato based sauces – these kinds of sauces get thicker fast and become like a cement paste if left on too very long. Marinade and coat the food using vinegar, citrus or soy type mixes to help make clean up easier.

6.  It is not advised to use alcoholic beverages or beer as a method of putting out a fire or as the cleaning agent.  You are much better off consuming the beer or utilizing it in a recipe than totally wasting it, plus it may harm the grill grates with corrusion.  Use baking soda as a cleaning agent.  By retaining it close by it will lessen the inconvenience of you scouring to find all your barbecuing utensils or if a fire erupts you can make use of it to put out the fire on the grill.

Chrome grills and grates are more difficult to maintain than a porcelain covered grill and have a tendency to corrode relatively easy.  Porcelain coated steel grills resist rusting and are simple to clean.  Porcelain coated cast iron has the advantages of cast iron wrapped in an easy to clean and maintain package. If you get grills with porcelain coatings make sure to only use a brass bristle brush to clean up the grills as the brass is fairly soft and will Not scratch the porcelain off of the grills.

Cast iron grills hold the heat extremely well and heat very evenly, but should be kept seasoned with cooking oil to avoid rusting. That can be a problem on a grill that is used and stored outdoors.  Stainless Steel grills will last a really long time, but don’t maintain the heat or sear as well as cast iron. If you are getting a grill with stainless steel grates make sure the grill rods are solid and heavy if you want to sear your meat or fish so that it is left medium rare in the middle. If the majority of of what you do is make is fairly slow (chicken, pork, roasts), then stainless steel would likely be an easy to maintain, long lasting option.

The final suggestion I can give is if you would like to reduce the hassle and time of cleaning your barbeque grill, keep a containers or bucket of all your barbecue utensils and cleaning products close by.  Took some time for me to learn that lesson of having to search for everything after I was done cooking.  Now I have all my stuff in a neat little bucket.  Saves me about 15 minutes, that’s the 15 minutes I could of already had the grill cleaned and ready to go for next time.
